Ongoing Programming and Offerings

Avodat Lev

Meet in the beautiful sanctuary at Etz Chaim at 7:00am every Thursday where we will sing, chant, and meditate on the morning prayers. No experience is necessary. Folks are also encouraged to bring song/meditation/prayer to share!

Avodat Lev (heart work) is a chant-based, meditative prayer form in Hebrew and English. Developed at Adamah, Avodat Lev is based on the daily prayer structure. No prior prayer knowledge or practice is required.

Taj Shabbat

On the 4th Friday of every month you will find a community Erev Shabbat dinner at Etz Chaim called Taj Shabbat.

Why? Vegetarian food is brought in every week from Taj Indian Cuisine in South Portland. Feel free to bring a vegetarian side dish if you would like.

This is a group of mostly younger adults who simply want to meet in a social setting for Shabbat dinner. There may or may not be a Friday night prayer service separate from the meal. The food is delicious and meeting new friends is always nice!

AA Meetings

AA holds a meeting every Saturday evening in the Fineberg Family Community Room at 6:00 pm. All are welcome to join.

Saturday Services

A modern Egalitarian service is held every Saturday morning beginning at 9:45am.

Our services might be considered “Conservadox” and are mostly conducted in Hebrew. The Rabbi’s discussion takes place as part of the Torah reading and is in English.

Participation and discussion is always encouraged and welcome. Service is always followed by a traditional “shul” kiddush- all are welcome!

Chavurat Habayit

Chavurat Habayit is a grass roots, family-led, learning group. Their unique Shabbat centered education, inspired by their Zionist heritage and rooted in the belief that the heart of Judaism thrives in the home, guides them to lead Jewish lives together.

At Chavurat Habayit, the curriculum brings Jewish and Israeli education to life through relationship-driven, joyful experiences. They deepen understanding for every age, building on familiar themes with rich insights each year.

Chavurat Habayit meets the first Saturday morning of each month at Etz Chaim Synagogue. We proudly affiliate Etz Chaim with the programs and mission of Chavurat Habayit.
